ABS-CBN Career Talk 2012 in Cebu

November 26, 2012, Monday-- ABS-CBN held a Carrer Talk at Castle Peak Hotel, Cebu City with Director Laurenti Dyogi the ABS-CBN'S TV production head. Together with Direk Lauren are other ABS' businees unit heads who were in Cebu for the series of auditions held for Pinoy Big Brother and The Voice of the Philippines. There was also a MMK Story Gathering held in Cebu prior to the event.

My school, University of San Jose-Recoletos, was fortunate to be invited to the the Career Talk together with other universities in Cebu that offers Mass Communication namely Cebu Normal University, University of the Visayas and St. Theresa's College of Cebu.

The Career Talk was officiated by ABS-CBN's HR personnel who were also present during the event. The event aimed encourage communication students and soon-to-be graduates to consider working on the media and to be part of the Kapamilya Network. From the different sharing about their work in the industry, participants were able to have a glimpse on what it feels to be working in the media.

Here are some of the things that Direk Lauren shared during the Career Talk:

Direk Lauren is graduate of Mass Communication major in Broadcasting in UP Diliman
He's been working in ABS for more than 20 years now.
He started working as production assistant in a show "Dick and Carmi"
He is the only child in his father’s third family.
He graduated Valedictorian in High school and took an entrance exam in his dream school Ateneo but did not able to pass the entrance exam.

Ms. Alou Almedan, ABS-CBN Business Unit Head, was also one of the speakers of the Career Talk. She shared her experiences as a a mother of three girls and at the same time working for ABS. She also shared that she didn't chose Direk Lauren as her teacher in UP during college.
